Correction of Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is defined by an unnatural increase in male breast fat and glandular tissue. Men who have this condition can undergo male breast reduction for correction.
Through male breast reduction, Dr. Ku can give you a flatter and more masculine chest. The procedure uses a combination of liposuction and excision (surgical removal) to correct the problem.
Male Breast Reduction: Is it right for you?
Men and boys who are affected by gynecomastia will often have:
- Fatty tissue on the chest
- Glandular tissue on the chest (can be painful)
- Self-consciousness
Gynecomastia can make a significant impact on man’s self-confidence. Those who are affected often hide the condition under loose clothing or poor body posture. In some cases, gynecomastia will go away, with (or without) lifestyle modifications. In other cases, male breast reduction is the best solution.
What to Expect During Male Breast Reduction
Male breast reduction may be performed with general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. Dr. Ku will make incisions in your underarm or around the nipple. Using liposuction, Dr. Ku will remove excess fat from the chest area. If glandular tissue is present, Dr. Ku will remove it with a scalpel.

Individual Results May Vary
The doctor will then close the incisions with sutures and apply surgical dressing and tape to cover them. A compression garment around your chest will promote skin contraction for best results.
Recovery and Aftercare
When you leave our office in Riverside, you will need transportation and assistance for a few days whilke you are recovering from the surgery. Follow Dr. Ku’s post-operative instructions and you will be back to your routine as quickly as possible. Discomfort during recovery can be managed with prescription medication.
You will need to continue to wear the compression garments for several weeks, but after this time, you will begin to see the benefits of male breast reduction surgery. While it can take a few weeks for the swelling to completely dissipate, you will soon be able to appreciate a more masculine-appearing chest. The appearance should be long-lasting, as long as you maintain a healthy diet and exercise.
